very confused about the rateings.

this has gotten many cuts in both US and UK releases. So I want to know how the hell roadshow entertainment got this by the australian cencor board with only an M. because that method could be useful to get other films and games into australia. (either that, or it is the usual american lots of violence is ok, but even non-pornographic nuditiy is evil attitude that the U.S. rating board seems to have)

So, was it some big stuffup in the australian censor board, or just the UK and US rating boards being their usual fuddy duddy selves?

Australia has really bad censorship problems. To see the film in all its glory you need to buy the Anchor Bay DVD released in America. It's a magnificent uncut anamorphic transfer, and it has a great commentary by Ken Russell himself

Crimes Of Passion was never awarded an M rating in Australia. The DVD appears to be rated M, but it was never classified that. This is a mistake. The film has always been rated R in Oz, and has been uncut since it was released.
