The amount of themes i'm drawn to in this movie are so many; mob bosses, period piece, jazz music etc.

I loved all the acting in this. I just felt there was a lot going on, for instance, Nicholas Cage's character was unnecessary and there were a few other things they could've done without.

I usually avoid movies with a lot of music, but a period piece in Harlem with such entertaining music and tap dancing ? It's great!

If it required a star rating, i would give it 4/5 stars.

I agree! I just saw this movie for the first time ever (director’s cut version, never saw theatrical cut), and it’s really good! The Nicolas Cage parts probably should have been reworked a little bit since he seems to suddenly turn into a bad guy out of nowhere and then get killed. I also thought the main angry mob boss (Chef from Apocalypse Now) should have had more of a motive for hating Richard Gere’s character other than fighting over a girl, but other than that a great musical with 1930s mafia setting.
