why I like this film less than CoB

One reason this film gets less consideration than the first is Conan's character.
I didn't see any other posts about this.

The film is more of an ensemble, having more characters which are used to tell the story. That is fine and sets it apart feom the first giving it a distinct feel from the first. Someone else said that it has a D&D feel. That is good, imo. The two universes are not that different. The episodic nature of dnd campaigns and the soap operic feel of some of the original stories lend themselves to each other.

What bothers me about this film is, in addition to the obvious inconsistencies of various characters behaviors, continuity issues, stilted (though admittedly faster) fight choreography, is some things Conan says.

He can't count to six? The first scene with Zula.

He gets very drunk immediately after Bombaata attacks him, offering the lame excuse of " I thought you were going to hurt the girl."

He wouldn't have survived very long in this world if he did things like that or was unable to think beyond the level these things imply.
These things are a direcrt contradiction of the character created by Robert Howard.

I think that is why there is some negative feelings for this film.
I still like it tho. But not as much as the first.
Also...James Earl Jones as Thulsa Doom. Not much can top that.

I think he was being a smart aleck.

This has always struck me as strange too.
