White Dog
I personally think this and White Dog are two of the most multi-layered and interesting movies about race relations. Especially for the time they came out, I'm surprised that they're not pandering and are both still relevant today. I find older movies tend to lost some racial value as we enter an age where racism is more institutionalized then blatant. For example, as good as In the Heat of the Night is, that type of situation is much more rare than it was in the '60s.
Anyway, both movies are very strong and fascinating studies of what constitutes racism and how it's affects our relationships and culture. I noticed a scene in Brother from Another Planet where he "rescues" that white dog from being tied to a parking meter. I was wondering if anyone had any theories or information as to whether it was intentional.
