Some of the cinematography is so inspired. But the movie itself awful. The movie is less than the sum of its parts. Is this an example of how a film can win "Best Director" and lose "Best Picture?"
shareBrain DePalma does many masterful things in any movie he directs - use of music, cinematography, etc. but he seldom makes a great movie. When he does make a great one, (The Untouchables, Scarface, Carito's Way, MI, Carrie, there is one thing in common - The screenplay is written by strong writers. Maybe, he shouldn't write his own screenplays.
I don't consider Blow Out great.
