Why is it rated R?
Why is Birdy rated R?
shareThere is a scene of sex between the main character and Al (Nicholas Cage) it is a gay side-plotline. Plus someone ejaculates into a cup.

How is the violence, I am just asking beacause it is set in Vietnam and it is a war movie at times so what is it like?
The MPAA just a buch of wacko's in buisness suits.
Before i saw it a also thoughtit was a war movie but actually it's not there's like 5 minutes or less of Vietnam war in the whole movie and you can see that by the end.
shareIt's not set in Vietnam. There are a few minutes of intensely violent war action, but most of the movie takes place in a hospital mental ward, and in flashbacks to their teenage years before joining the Army.
It definitely IS a "war movie", because it's about the *effect* of war on two soldiers who were best friends before the war, and what the war did to them.
It's something like "The Deer Hunter" in structure. Who they were before, during, and after. The "during" part of this movie is very short, but very bloody.
This guy's full of crap; there's no gay stuff like that at all. I'd say it's probably the scene where Nic Cage is doing the chick while Birdy is nearby being lame not conversing well with his date. There's no nudity in that scene but it's still fairly graphic or was to the MPAA in 1984.
sharePossibly because of the masturbation scene - when Birdy gets off on thinking he's a bird

First of all there is no gay content in this movie AT ALL, the person who said that there is a gay sex scene was talking sh*t. Anyway, there is some nudity in the movie, and few scenes of sexuality, there is some very brief violence and a scene including a lot of references to violence against dogs. I think that mainly it. See it, it's an amazing movie.
"The life is a scene badly written in which we must play"
There's also a scene of nudity from Maud Winchester while she's in a car with Birdy. Although that wouldn't make it 'R' automatically, I guess the MPAA didn't like the fact that there is physical contact on her breasts from Birdy (he touches them with his hand). The scene isn't that long, and it's really innocent from what I remember of it.
sharePrimarily it's rated R for Language, Nudity (breasts and make buttocks) and brief but still bloody scenes of war violence.
sharei am 12 and my dad dosent like me waching sex scenes so is there much ?
sharehow long is the sex scene ?
shareIt's rated R because they say "the F word" a whole lot. You only have to say it two or three times to get an R rating (it depends on the context though).
There's less boobs in this movie than a PG-13 flick, and I'm not sure that they actually do have sex, since they're wearing clothes. Lots of non-sexual manbutt though.
The violence is probably enough to warrant an R, and ratings or not, the scene with the dead animals (you'll know when you see) is quite hard to watch.
