Music
Any idea where I could buy the haunting theme music, especially the introduction score?
shareThe music you're talking about is by Claude Bolling. I've been trying to find it myself. It doesn't seem as if it was ever released though, and since it's name doesn't seem to be mentioned in the film, it's a tough search!
shareIsn't the piece called 'Rustic Waltz' or something like that? I also tried to find it many years ago but to no avail. Big shame.
shareThe music was released in 1985 on 7" vinyl in France as "Un Printemps Sous La Neige" and the tracklisting is as follows:
A; Generique Fin
B; Generique Debut/ Theme De Saxon.
A nice guy in France burnt it to cd for me, thank you if your reading this.
I remember seeing this film years ago on BBC 2 when they ran a "Young American's" themed film season. I've always loved these rites of passage films from the early 70's & 80's and like you I've been hunting for the title theme for years and have had no luck....until now.
The tracks you are (or were) loking for are on a CD by the French Composer "Claude Bolling" and are available on a CD called "Claude Bolling: American Movies".
The following link will take you to a site where you can preview each track, but as it's a compilation from other films he's scored only tracks 10,11,12 & 13 are from "The Bay Boy" but track 13 is the main one you've been looking for.

I was hoping someone would have posted the theme on YouTube by now, but no such luck.
Anyways, for what it's worth all these years after your original post, I hope that helps :)
