Subplots, underlying themes (spoilers)

I have to say, this was pretty strange and interesting to watch. I was expecting a cheesy flick but it seems to touch a lot of unusual ideas and themes, which made me think it was a bit ahead of its time when you compare it to the other movies of the same period..

- Environmental impact of urban expansion
- class structure
- race (Jake's comments to Taylor when they're riding the jaguar)
- recreational drug use among white-collar crowd

Anyway, it just made me think because some of the subplots didn't really add too much into the story but maybe they were added for a specific reason? The ending got all strange but it was ok..

I agree with all of the themes you pointed out. It was very social-political and underrated. And Jessie was a product of her environment, which really turned her seemingly privledged life into a tangled mess and her into a murderer twice over. I made a page for this film here if you are interested
