Just you, bro.
shareNope, it ISN'T just you. Everybody in our Friday night popcorn, pizza, and wine Film Review Committee thought the characters were vapid/nasty and the whole movie a steaming mess. Stand by your opinion!!
share'cause in real life, everyone's a saint.
shareWell, Jake Wise (James Wood) has redeeming characteristics. The movie tells us specifically that he helped get Jessie (Rachel Ward) off drugs. We see him kicking people out of his club because they disrespect Tommy (Dorian Harewood) because he's black. Then he's murdered by Jessie after being betrayed by Tommy. Go figure.

"I've always resisted the notion that knowledge ruined paradise." Prof. Xavier
Saw this movie once, in the theater. I remember his reaction when Jessie shot him. His was actually a real person underneath.
"Two more swords and I'll be Queen of the Monkey People." Roseanne
he didn't kick anyone out the club!
What the $%*& is a Chinese Downhill?!?

I dated someone in the sports field for some time and these characters are quite the mirror of life. I hated that scene of people which led to my leaving the jock. Very shallow people, all ego, money, fame, power and status, very insensitive..Ick...

jef bridges carried the story, and was the POV. his wounded dreamer persona was very redeemable to me. maybe you lack empathy?
