Why the Outlaws?

Why did they call the football team the Outlaws?
Do you get sued if you mention a real NFL football team?
Now, Terry did mention the Dolphins at the end. They didn't change that name though.

Maybe because the team (in the film) was corrupt and on the take, the filmmakers didn't want to insult a real team and possibly get beaten up by big, angry musclemen.

NFL licensing fees are probably very expensive. And the commissioner of the NFL probably wouldn't have given them his express consent for the use of NFL team names.

Basically, its easier and cheaper to come up with a fake team.
