About the DVD soundtrack?

Hi Everyone.
I am in the UK, and after seeing the recent "new" V series, I decided to revisit the (superior) originals.
I have had the original mini-series (as it's called on the box) and "The Final battle" on DVD since they appeared here in the UK about 10 years or so ago.
One thing struck me though?
When I played the "Original" parts through the home cinema, it sounded great with Surround Sound.
Here's the glitch...
When I moved onto "The Final Battle" it was in mono.
According to the box, it has a Dolby Surround Track and a Mono track, so I fiddled with the dvd settings to try and change the audio, yet, despite what's said on the box, THERE IS NO SURROUND SOUNDTRACK.
Have I got a faulty disc, or are they all like this.?
I should add I have a Player now which is all-region, so if there is an edition anywhere with a CONFIRMED surround track, could someone point me in the right direction?
Many thanks

I don't think the disc is faulty. The North American DVD release comes with only a Dolby Digital Mono audio track. The same probably applies to the UK DVD release. Sounds like the Dolby Surround Stereo label on the box was placed in error.

Hi Modano1973
Thanks for that confirmation. The original parts have a surround track on the UK edition, but as you rightly said, the "Final Battle" is marked up with a surround track, but it isn't present.
As you say, this is clearly an error.
Maybe some day, they'll put these "films" over to BluRay, and do it justice it clearly deserves.
I've never been a fan of Star Trek, Alien, etc.
I find "Earth" bound Sci Fi is much more effective because of the "what if..." question.(Carpenter's "The Thing" and "They Live", "Predator", "Stargate", etc)
I think the original V, when I saw it as a kid, was the most amaing thing. When it first aired here in the UK it clashed with an Olympics season, and apparently it had more viewers!

Thanks for the heads up on whether or not it was worth "upgrading" to the US version.
Take Care!
(Must go and learn my lines now as I'm starting a film in a month or so!)
