I really liked the Brian and Robin scenes, even though there wasn't that many of them. I thought they were kinda cute together. Peter Nelson and Blair Tefkin had good chemistry together.
I thought their storyline was very interesting in a Romeo and Juliet kind of way, especially with the half alien/half human baby.
You know, I just watched the DVD, and it doesn't seem to flow right that Robin kills Brian in front of Elizabeth. That kind of left that hanging as to how Elizabeth reacted. I felt it was a perfect opportunity for Brian's redemption for his original intentions and feel empathy for the humans. THAT would have really been something!! Now somewhat loyal to humans because of his half-human daughter.
Robin killing Brian didn't flow right, in my opinion, either.
I, too, thought it would have been a great opportunity for Brian's redemption as well, and to have/feel empathy and loyality to humans since his daughter was half-human.
You're right. THAT would have been interesting.
I really liked the Brian/Robin/Elizabeth storyline.
I agree with both of you. The Brian/Robin/Elizabeth storyline was my favorite. I was so upset when Robin killed him off. I first saw V when I was in 1st grade, so Brian was my first "crush." I still think he is totally hot when I rewatch the show. I wonder what he looks like today...
"Romeo and Juliet" was about two lovers who loved each other, despite their families being at war.
Brian was told to engage in a "medical experiment". He even glares at Diana through the one-way mirror (eww!). In TFB, it's clear Brian has a loathing for humans. When confronting Robin before his death, he was just trying to save himself. He didn't care about her. She was just an object. Much like how the nazis treated the jews. ("V", both miniseries, looked at the events that were made as "Schindler's List", as the miniseries and that movie have a few common themes.)
The actors had chemistry; it made their scenes believable to be sure.
The baby was just a cliché, especially how it had magical powers that saved the day. To be fair, "V" the 1985 TV series, actually dealt with the Elizabeth character much more effectively. For a while...
Actually, the Romeo/Juliet parallel would be better accorded to Willie/Harmony, as their plot clearly indicated real feelings being built up, with no sign of Diana or anyone else to tell Willie to go after a human like that. Harmony's own revelation she didn't fall for Willie for his looks also says a lot about the relationship (the 2009 remake is so brainless it's giving all sorts of characters instant biological attraction, which includes the aliens going gaga over humans. Um, *bzzt*. Wrong. The writers of the remake missed the point, but the number of gaffes in the remake pilot alone speak for themselves.)
I don't think that Brian was glaring at Diana during his seduction scene with Robin. I think that he liked Robin and perhaps had some type of romantic interest in her, but it was Diana that he was really attracted to. He wanted to please Diana so that he could have sex with her and advance professionally. When he looked at Diana in the one way mirror, he wasn't glaring at her but sort of looking at her to get her approval.
I do think that Brian was only thinking about himself when he was trying to appeal to Robin's "love" for him when he was captured. Even if he did have romantic feelings for Robin in the first movie, in the second movie he is no longer just a measly youth leader and has a sexual relationship with Diana. At this point, he definitely is only concerned about himself.
Diana should have told Brian about it. It's terrible that they only had one scene together in the final battle series and that was when she killed him.
Robin killing Brian didn't flow right, in my opinion, either.
What do you mean?
He conspired with Diana to seduce/impregnate her because of a (strongly implied) promise by Diana that she would have sex with him, and help his career. He never cared for her. She was a mission and then he left her with a child, because Diana wanted it as an experiment.
Then - next time we see him - hes banging some other girl/alien he doesn't care about because shes his superior and its good for a promotion. Brian was a dickhead. And he also happily conspired/aided the Visitors in murdering/harvesting countless innocent human-beings/animal life. He deserved to die.
