When ever the autobots go back to cybertron the planet always seems empty and deserted. Where are the millions of transformers that make up the general population.All we ever seem to see is Shockwave and some generic decepticon drones.
So it's treason then!

After Cybertron shut down most of the Autobots had to evacuate.
It makes sense that Cybertron would be sparsely populated during the first two seasons. The planet's population probably declined due to warfare and energy shortages. Most of the Autobots left Cybertron and those that stayed behind went into hiding. The Decepticon ranks on the TV series were bolstered with generic robots because there were fewer Decepticon toys than Autobots when the toy line was launched.
