New Transformers began appearing on Earth without explanation partway through the production of Season 2.
Transformers had tighter continuity during its first season when it was a weekly series. There were references to events from earlier episodes and the origins of new Transformers were always explained. Continuity was largely ignored during the second season. The number of episodes that had to be produced greatly increased when Transformers switched to daily syndication in Season 2. The writers might have had difficulty maintaining continuity as they had to churn out more scripts on a tight schedule. It was also common for TV stations to air episodes in the wrong order, so the writers might have been instructed to disregard continuity and focus on stand-alone episodes.
