Wheeljack should have turned the Dinobots into a combiner team.

Could Wheeljack have turned the Dinobots into a combiner team like Megatron did for the Constructicons back on Cybertron? It would have been great to see them form a giant transformer.

So it's treason then!

Blame the company that designed the toys as they came out before the show.

The Dinobots were great enough as they were. I mean, they're robots that change into dinosaurs! It doesn't get any cooler than that when you're an eight year old boy.

Not every Transformers sub-team needed to combine into a giant robot. It was awesome and unexpected when the Constructicons first formed Devastator but the idea of the combiner team was eventually overused.

It didn't help that every time they introduced a new 'scramble city' combiner the other side had to get one too.

I see what you mean.Like when the Autobots became Headmasters then the Decpticons would become Headmasters and then both side did the same with the Targetmasters,Powermasters,Actionmasters.

So it's treason then!

First: Prior to season three (when the whole Dinobot team became loveable sidekicks) they were powerful enough as a group to take on anyone and anything. So, back when the TV show (for the most part) made sense they didn't need a combiner mode. Second: do you remember seeing the Constructicons merge for the first time? Damn, that was unexpected! Unfortunately, it got to the point where almost every sub group was a combiner. As much as I like The protectobots by the time that they came around it was complete combiner overkill. Hell, they didn't beven get an introductory episode. They just showed up. See, even the people writing the show knew that by that point it was combiner oevrkill. Third: Do you really think that a Transformer with Grimlocks ego would let his mind meld with four other bots to become one mind?!Four: The dinobots did (in one universe) merge into a gestalt. Go to Transformers wikipedia and look up "The Beast. In that reality they became a rather odd looking combiner.

Even though I find the idea of making the Dinobots a combiner redundant, some third party did made some custom made Dinobot figure set that do combine into a large robot. http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/additional-images-of-tfc-t oys-dinocombiner-robot-modes-revealed/23084/

Well, the toys would've sucked being much smaller & dinkier.

I like that they were strong enough to fight a combiner anyways.

I think Wheeljack needed to focus on building them so they're not stupid rather than spending his efforts on turning them into combiners.

Even as a kid the "Dinosaurs are stupid so I have to build the Dinobots to be stupid" was one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Also if he could build an external antenna to amplify brain power in the Dinobots, why didn't he just delay their unveiling until he finished.

I always liked the comic book dinobot origins because it actually made sense.

The origin of the dinobots in the comic book was MUCH better than the cartoon version. It actually made sense. Also, Grimlock spoke the same, but he was very intelligent. Especially when Simon Furman wrote him.

That Dinobot combiner looks pretty cool. I like the way they used grimlock's head as the combiner head. It would make sense that if the dinobots combined that Grimlock would still be in charge. It's a shame it never (to my knowledge) went into production. However, I still like the dinobots better as a non combiner team. I like the fact that they are strong enough to take on the combiners without actually being one.

The comics do a lot more with a lot of characters but Dinobots especially. They have the intellect to match the physical force they have which is a powerful combination. The constant struggle between militaristic Grimlock and Optimus makes it so there truly is a power struggle within the Autobots. Throw in the complications that arise with Prowl and Grimlock sharing the duties of Prime's #2 and Grimlock not liking it and you have much more interesting stories that arise.

You know, I let my nephew read my TPB of the original marvel run and he was amazed at how much some of the Autobots hated each other and hoe Grimlock was written how he should have been written in the comic book. It's also worth noting that he (Grimlock) still spoke the exact same way as he did in the cartoon, but in the comics he almost always came across as being smart. The whole "they have simple brains like real dinosaurs" was one of the dumbest lines in the entire series.
