Why no female Decepticons?

The Autobots had quite a few female warriors within their ranks so Optimus Prime was all for equal oportunities. Why didn't the Decepticons have any female warriors? Surely Megatron wasn't sexist. One thing I liked in Beast Wars was the introduction of a bad ass female Decepticon warrior Blackarachnia. It would have been cool to see someone like Blackarachnia in the original G1 cartoon perhaps as one of Megatron's leiutenants.

So it's treason then!

All I can say is, that I like to consider Nightbird a female Decepticon at times. However I've also heard in Arcee's profile that Decepticons underrate her because she so closely resembles the female humans of Earth. http://www.ntfa.net/universe/english/index.php?act=view&char=Arcee

Maybe it's this certain xenophobia towards female transformers that the Decepticons have, that may have prevented them from being placed in their ranks. Of course they probably never bothered to make any...

Yeah I wonder why there weren't any female Deceptions. Maybe they weren't thought of as war-like enough. The closest thing would be Slipstream from War for Cybertron.

Why wouldn't Megatron be sexist? He's hardly the most sensitive robot in the universe, lol.

He didn't seem to be that way with Nightbird. In fact you could say he was infatuated by her.

reply

True, but that doesn't mean he doesn't normally think fembots are inappropriate for combat. Nighbird might have been the exception that really impressed him.

I'll be honest I'm a little bias. As a woman I don't watch shows just because they have female characters. In fact I tend to get annoyed when they take attention away from the guys, lol.

Keep in mind the original purpose of the Autobots and Decepticons. The Autobots were designed as consumer goods and the Decepticons as military hardware. While there was probably a market for female robots as a consumer product, there really is no need to design military hardware that is female.

Perhaps Soundwave and Reflector are females? They are less war machines than the rest.

Soundwave seems quite adept at preparing energon cubes. Dinner time boys! Soundwave has robots coming alive out of herself.

Megatron is the most sexist creature ever.

In the Shout! Factory Matrix of Leadership Special Edition DVD set, an interview with Bob Budiansky features close-ups of his original handwritten notes for several characters. Intriguingly, these notes refer to Ratchet as "her" and the Autobots' "go-to gal" for repairs. While this obviously was not the final direction the character took, it does show that female characters were being considered for inclusion in the cast before someone at Hasbro told Budiansky otherwise.

They were probably extinct! The same way the female Autobots were believed to be extinct until they were discovered to be hiding underground Cybertron in "The Search for Alpha Trion."

He didn't even have a girlfriend unlike Optimus who had Elita/Ariel before he became Prime.

reply

Well, this was still the 80's, and back then Transformers was still considered a "boys only" kind of thing, so naturally, you didn't get that many female bots in G1. Although, in this series, fembots were said to have been "extinct", so...

Every other series of the era seemed to have at least one token female villain (The Baroness, Evil-Lyn, Vanessa Warfield). Heck, even the GoBots had Crasher.

That had to make recruiting tough for the Decepticons. Who would want to join that sausage fest?
