Did anyone get those mail offer Autobots?

I remember included in just about every box of the original Transformers, there was a mail in offer for Reflector and one for 3 Autobot cars (can't remember their names). Did anyone actually send off for them? Were they good quality?

A school friend of mine came to school one day showing off his Reflector toy that he sent away for.I was about 9 years old back then but I remember thinking wow I wished I had Reflector as he was one of my favourite characters.Every so often he would come to school with Transformers that hadn't been released in England yet like the Triplechangers as his dad worked on some U.S airbase or somthing and got all the latest Transformers (lucky devil).

I remember that he also sent away for an Autobot mini and was sent Gears. He also got a watch with the Decepticon insignia that transformed.

I had (still have them actually) them. Their names were Camshaft, Downshaft and Overdrive. They were Autobots who belonged to a sub group that was called the Omnibots. They were pretty cool, but unlike most of the larger Transformers of the time (first and second season toys) they didn't have any die cast parts. I sent away for the other robot too. His name was Powerdasher. There were three different Powerdasher robot molds. Unfortunately, by the time I sent in the money, robot points (remember you had to cut out robot points on the back to Transformers boxes in addition to sending money) and the order form Hasbro had stopped making Powerdasher toys. So, they sent me my money back. I never had Reflector, but I did have a transforming toy who turned into a camera that I used as Reflector. I bought him for a buck or two at The Long Island Arena (parts of Frampton Comes Alive was recorded there and John F. Kennedy delivered a speech there during his presidential campaign). I also ordered Ratchet and Wheeljack from one the later mail in catalogs. After Transformers Movie came out and almost all of the first season bots were killed off, the only place that you could buy Ratchet, Ironhide, Wheeljack, Mirage, Trailbreaker and Optimus Prime was though a mail order catalog. I planned on buying all of them, but soon after I received Ratchet and Wheeljack I out grew Transformers :/ Still, I still have all of them and just about all of my other Transfromers from that time. So, I guess I should be happy about that :) It's just too bad that some are broken :(

Also, that watch that transformed was called Time Warrior and it was an Autobot insignia not a Decepticon insignia. I can't believe I remember all of this stuff, but unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I do.

Yep come to think of it the watch was an Autobot insignia. My memory of my school days in the 1980s is a bit hazy.

Well, all of out memories start to distort over time. Just be glad that you still have fuzzy memories. I know some people who can't even remember last week let alone 30 years ago. I always wanted that watch guy, but I never got around to buying him. I did have Chronoform (I think that was his name). Chronoform was a watch that turned into a little robot. He wasn't an official Transformer, but he was pretty cool. A lot of those knock off Transformers(and boy there were a lot of them) were cool. I always found it odd that during the 80s that there were a billion other Transforming robot companies and as a child buyer we had almost unlimited options of various knock off Transfomers that we could buy. However when Beast Wars hit that same "robot mania" didn't happen again. There were Beast Wars figures by Hasbro some power rangers and that was about it. I guess it was just an isolated event that happened in the middle of the 80s that won't happen again.

I also remember The GO-BOTS toys and their cartoon series. There was also Zoids which had little motors that allowed then to walk across the floor but I fail to remember if any of them transformed.

Anyone remember the ROBOTIX toyline and their shortlived cartoon series. The cartoon had some of the same voice actors as the Transformers series. The show had humans from a crashed space ship on an alien planet. The humans split into two factions. One faction sided with the good robots and piloted the robots while the other faction of humans sided with the evil robots.I wonder if this was the inspiration for the future Headmasters and Targetmasters in season 4.

I never saw the Robotix show. I was born in 86 and my transformers collection started with the 'classics' reissues. BUT I definitely remember the advert/commercial for the show at the beginning of one of my TF VHS tapes. I remember it had the same narrator for the TF show, telling the story. Were the bad guys called Terrorcores or something like that? I remember seeing two Robots emerge from the ground and their pilots running up their arms!

I remember the Robotix show. I didn't catch it on TV, but my brother and I rented the "movie" on VHS once. It combined all the episodes into one long movie. It was pretty cool. My brother had the 1 issue comic book too that crammed the episodes into comic book format. My brother was pretty huge into Robotix. He had Argus, Bront, and Venturax (I think that is how you spell them). He didn't have the one bad guy that they made, Tyrannex.

Cool toys.

He was into Starriors too back then. He had most of those figures and toys at one time or another. I think he sold them on ebay a few years ago and made some pretty good coin for them. Back when he was in college he even created a website for that toy that lasted for a few years.

Next to Transformers I think those were his two favorites although they were both fairly short lived. The mid 1980's were really cool for kids. Lots of interesting and ground breaking toys. Wheeled Warriors, Air Raiders and Centurions were pretty neat as well.

I was older and didn't get into the toys as much, although I did like the shows based around them pretty well. I was mostly playing video games and building airplane models at the time (outside of Transformers and GI Joe).

Yep Reflector andall 3 OmniBots.

My brother and I sent away from them. I got a postcard that said 3 to 6 weeks and we'd get them. That was about 25 years ago or so. Still waiting.

I had Reflector... and I also got Mirage as mail order during the G2 line I believe... I don't have either one of them... I traded a good part of my collection for COMICS in the 90's.... the dumbest thing I've EVER done. If I have ANY regrets... that would have been it. I traded in a friends G1 Megatron (it wasn't in great shape, nor had any of the extras), one or 2 of my Dinobots, Reflector, Mirage, and few others... I'd do anything to get them back...

3rd generation American from a long line of Gottscheers... it was Drandul, dude!

My best friend got them all. I remember getting one, but I don't remember which one it was. I always envied his collection. He had something like 75 transformers, and I had like 30.

I had reflector and camshaft. I got Camshaft as a gift I remember from my mother, and I think I saved up to get Reflector on my own.

Do toy companies still do mail away promotions like that anymore?

reply

I had them but sold them along with my entire collection back in 2002 on Ebay, I made a killing but wish I wouldn't have sold them. I would love to still have them all and keep them in display cases. I think they were the coolest toy line ever created and I would totally buy them all again if they ever were to release them all (G1) again in the stores.

reply

I had Reflector, and to my knowledge I still do. I'd have to look at my old stuff to be sure, but I generally keep my old toys and stuff unless they are ruined.
