Is GI JOE set in Transformers universe?

The character of Snake in season 3 to me is claerly an older version of Cobra Commander and at the end of that episode he says terrorism isn't like it used to be" then shouts COBRA.Also the Russian version of GI JOE known as The October Gaurd made a brife cameo. Were these just in-jokes as both shows were made by the same makers or was it ment to indicate that GI JOE and Transformers exsist in the same universe?

So it's treason then!

Transformers, GIJoe, Inhumanoids and Jem were all in the same universe as they featured the same reporter character Hector Ramirez (spelling?) as well as a few random appearances from other characters.

Jem was set in that universe? OMG...

It was implied that Marissa Faireborn from Season 3 of Transformers was the daughter of Flint and Lady Jaye from G.I. Joe. Flint's real name was Dashiell R. Faireborn. In the Transformers episode "The Killing Jar", Marissa saw an illusion of her father that looked and sounded like an older Flint.

So if indeed GI JOE exists in the same universe then that means that when the Ark crashed to Earth it was dueing the time that Cobra La ruled the planet. Also the Insecticons who were active maybe thousands of years before the stasis locked transformers on the Ark and may have had an encounter with Golobulus and the citizens of Cobra La?

So it's treason then!

reply

Why did that not hit me before? The idea of Cobra-La existing when the Ark crashed is interesting. Since they hated technology, seeing them encounter the Transformers would've been something. I'm talking about the modern era, cuz technology didn't exist then.

reply

The Ark crashed but the Transformers didn't 'wake up' again until the 1980's yes? When they became present (1980's) day Earth modes.

I like to think they did share the same universe. TF season 3 post-movie is 2005+, Cobra Commander as we're shown him (it's not 'not' him) 20yrs older than the mature leader he was during GI Joe mid '80s.

As for cohabitating, I guess Megatron's pulling Cybertron adjacent to Earth might've been cause for Joe &/or Cobra alarm... but what could they possibly have done?? As for the rest, most Transformer activity was in fairly remote areas & pretty isolated all things considered. Enough of their larger scale conflicts happened in outer space/on other planets later on.

You make valid points but I suspect COBRA & GI JOE may have been aware of the Transformers existance. There were some episodes where the Decepticons made their presance known like when they took over New York and laurnched an invasion of Washington D.C with the Atlantians.Threats like that would certainly get on GI JOE'S radar and spark Cobra Commander's interest.I would have loved to see an episode dueing season 2 where Cobra Commander made contact with The Decepticons offering an aliance with COBRA.Also seeing Cobra Commander interacting with Starscream would have been fun considering Chris Latta provided the voice acting for both characters.

So it's treason then!

reply

It would've been cool to see some interaction, but it may have been thought of as to big an undertaking, considering the shared voices and which characters do you use. You couldn't load up with too many.

reply

With all due respect, Megatron never would've allied with COBRA unless he was planning some long con.

I would love to see the TF universe between 1985-2005, maybe some crossover stories could be used for filler lols.

I guess they did exist within the same continuity. Even if there are cross-overs they were done well without taking anything away from either one. Nowadays, we would probably see "My Little Pony" somewhere in there. Oops..nevermind...happened in the first movie.

Interesting continuity.

When did a my little pony crossover happen?

reply

The old Marvel comics series did have GI Joe in the same universe.

Conquer your fear, and I promise you, you will conquer death.

According to Buzz Dixon (writer for GI-Joe, Transformers, Inhumanoids, My Little Pony and Jem) Transformers, Gi-Joe, Jem and Inhumanoids (and possibly My Little Pony)were all in the same universe. Hector Ramirez (the television anchorman who was a knock off of Geraldo Rivera)even makes a cameo in all of the series.

Here's proof from the man himself

All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

Old Snake shouting "COBRA!!! *cough, cough, hack wheeze*" Was probably my favorite moment from season three. lol

The late Chris Latta was a talented voice actor and seemed to be all over the place at the time like Frank Welker. Truly a shame he passed away at a fairly young age.

Cool a Transformers \ Gi Joe crossover movie if done right could be an epic encounter.I would love to see the Decepticons take on Cobra vehicle alternate modes like Megatron possibly having a Cobra HISS tank mode and Starscream maybe a Cobra Rattler jet mode.

Its treason then! (Palpatine - Stars Wars ROTS)

one might also roll the early 90's Series "C.O.P.S." in there as well...

Set in 2020; 10-15 years after the series (depends much time passed within season 3/4; and several of the character profiles on the COPS's Toys referenced GI Joe members as Family as well

-- COPS member Checkpoint was cited as the son of GI Joe's Beachhead
