1986-1987, what happened?

Just noticed recently upon watching the Season DVDs from my local library the dates in which they ran. Take a look at this (the episode listing on here will say the same)

Season 1: 1984-1985
Season 2: 1985-1986
Season 3: 1987 (all episodes appear to have aired in the Fall/Winter of 1987)
Season 4: 1988 (all episodes appear to have aired during the Spring of 1988)

So my question is, anyone know what happened to the show after Season 2 where they couldn't make Season 3 run from 1986-1987? Was there some sort of strike going on? And is it true that the 3rd season had pretty much a new episode every night? That's how it appears on the 'Episode List' here! Or is it just an IMDB error?

The show went into syndication in 1986. They needed the gap year to sort out the transfer from NBC.

If you compare how Punky looks in the first and second season, she hasn't changed much, neither has she changed much between the third and fourth season. But if you watch the last episode of the 2nd season, and then the ep after, the first episode of the 3rd season you can see a huge change! Suddenly you can see that Punky, or Soleil, is really starting to grow up and she has "aged", or should I say "matured" a lot! Though she is still barely still only a preteen, you can definately see that she is growing up! So it's pretty obvious that there must have been a gap between the second and third season, otherwise she couldn't possibly have changed so much

back in the early or mid 90s she did a bunch of talk show apperances how she was called 'punky boobster' and they used to make her tape her breasts down to continue to look young...so yeah...the more you know and those things led her to get a breast reduction which was slightly unheard of at the time
