How would you reboot the G.I.Joe brand for television or videogames?

Pretty self explanatory.

If you were given the keys to develop a cartoon series or videogame series based on the franchise, how would you reboot it? Without the network constraints, or the advertising quota of Hasbro, there's alot of potential to be mined from the series, without having to degrade to the silliness that the show is known for.

If it were a series, I would want it to be serialized, similar to shows like Breaking Bad or The Wire. It would also be 5 or six seasons, with a definitive endgame to close the story off. And most of the stories would be based off of the Marvel comic series rather than the television show.

What story arcs should be mandatory? And what would be a good closeout to the series?

If it were a videogame series, what popular gaming engines would be ideal for it, and what would be your baseline roster of characters would you have in the game? -- both playable and npc's? Note: try to keep your wishlist streamlined and reasonable and not to base your picks on any superficial appeal factors alone.

What vehicles or playsets would work in a game series, and what considerations would you take in balancing the pros and cons of vehicles from the opposing side? For example, my vehicle roster would resemble the list below:

G.I.Joe:

Vamp mk. I (Humvee)
Mauler (Tank)
Skystriker (fighter jet)
Mirage (motorcycle)
Dragon Fly (attack helicopter)

Cobra:

Stinger Jeep -- refitted with artillery batteries
Hiss Tank
Rattler -- redesigned to be a Skystriker counterpart
Ferret ATV
Mamba or the fang -- redesigned to be a dragonfly counterpart.

For me, it would be cool to have a game using the Red Faction Guerilla destruction engine running it, and would have 2 campaigns from the point of view of each sides.

The Batman Arkham series and High Moon's Transformers have proven that games based on licensed ip's can work in the right hands.

I would first start off with GI JOE facing off against Baron Ironblood and his army of Red Shadows from the the early 80s Briitsh Action Force comic.

The first season would have Baron Ironblood's forces battleing GI JOE for control of the world. The final two episodes would have Baron Ironblood badly defeated and in fall retreat as all the nations of the world unite against him and brand him public enemy number 1.
Baron Ironblood then knowing he and his terrorist organisation are finished leaks out information about the locations to all of his Red Shadow base's for GI JOE to wipe out and then fakes his own death.

In season 2 The Baron reinvents himsrelf as Cobra Commander and starts a new terrorist organisation COBRA.Then Cobra Commander swears to learn from his mistakes with his previous organisation and COBRA will be a hundred times more powerful. The following episodes shows Cobra Commander recruiting his leutenants like Destro,The Baroness,Zartan,Firefly,Storm Shadow and so on.GI JOE then becomes aware of the existance of COBRA and the war begins.

In season 3 like in the old British Action Force comic remanents of the Red Shadows that survived Cobra Commanders betrayal attack COBRA and GI JOE.COBRA then sets about finaly wipeing out the remanents of the Red Shadows out by sending an army of Crimson Gaurds and Vipers to destroy them.
