I wrote to Guy and I got an answer today!
I'm happy right now. I wasn't at all prepaired that he would answer. I'm actually a little chocked and very very surprised. I wrote that I love him...of course and I asked him how it was to do those scenes with Gorden and I asked about those scenes when Gruber is sad about René getting married and all that stuff, if he played it for laughs and then I thanked him for all the laughs and when you're sad you can always watch 'Allo 'Allo and then you get happy again. This is his answer:
"Dear Sanna,
Thanks very much for your emails. I am sorry for the delay. As you probably know I am just back from Brisbane, and have been snowed under since my return.
As to your questions:
I naturally thoroughly enjoyed the 'set pieces' at the bar with Gorden. They became very much a motif of the show and the audiences loved the scenes. Laughing at oneself while shooting is always a danger - but comedy is a serious business. It's a matter of concentration!
I guesss the scenes where Hubert is sad are funny because they are sad. We call that 'pathos' in English. Think of Charlie Chaplin, who was the master in that genre.
These answers are very boring, aren't they! Sorry.
I am so glad that you enjoy the show so much and that it makes you happy. That's why we do it!
I send you kind regards,
Guy Siner"
Hihi
René: "How can I ever thank you?"
Gruber: "Well, I have not yet given the matter any thought..."
