Sorry if this has been asked before, but why did he leave the show?

Don't know, but it's a shame he did. Herr Flick was never the same.

Nope he never was, Just come across an interview, where he says that he got fed up and wanted to move on. He also expressed that the last series would have been better if his character had been killed off and not replaced by a differernt actor. I agree that it would have been better if David Janson had his own character.

I suppose he had been in it for a long time, but I would never have got tired of Herr Flick. I feel sorry for actors who take over roles which other actors have made their own, if that makes sense: the chap who took over from Gavin Richards wasn't as good, nor, according to this board, is David Janson.

I agree. Although flick was a bit of a nutter i found him and Helga rather hot.

There can only be one Herr Flick....Gibson made that role his own.

I'm just finding out that all my favorite characters from the show leave and are replaced....

They're the main reasons why I like the show!!!!!

I'm watching the box set currently, and I'm just about done with Season 2. There is a TV station running the series that I watch sometimes and they're on Season 5, I think. I just saw the episode with the camera under Rene's apron and he's trying to get a picture of a map.

I really don't like that Italian character. He's no substitution for Hans and he just doesn't seem to have the right chemistry with the rest of the characters.

If he got fed up and wanted to move on , why didn't he just stay as they only did one more series after he left?

He was asked that question in an interview and he said that he didn't know that it would only be one more. They never knew for sure when the next season would be the last. A lot of it is up to the broadcasting company to order more episodes.
