Favorite Crabtree line?

The one that had me laughing the most was when Crabtree accidentally walked in on Michelle while she was changing clothes (I think... it was 20 years ago) and he said "I hope she does not thonk that I'm a Pooping Tim".

Anyone know which episode that was in? I'd like to watch it again.

"I think it was 20 years ago" ??? Huh?? The show you mean??? Yeah, it's 25 years ago the show started. I think my favorite is the classic and simple "Good moaning!" And another one I remember and think is very funny is "I was pissing by the door when I heard two shats!"

reply

I love that one! And in series 6 when he was "pissing by the chiteau"!

There is an episode in the 3rd season, I think either the very last one or second to last, where Crabtree goes into the cafe and stands at the bar, with Rene, Edith, and Yvette standing behind it. They are curious as to where the airmen are, and Crabtree proceeds to tell them, in his best French accent, "They have taken spades, and have crapped aloong the tunnel..." As in they are digging their way into the POW camp with spades. I laughed out loud at 'crapped'. Then of course Rene comes back with "Look, can you not get a phrase book and improve your French?" The audience is howling at this point.

hehehehe

Some more of my favourites, from series 8 & 9

When showing a map to Rene & Edith: "I have a mop. Would you like a leek?"

While on bikes with the resistance waiting for a British plane: "As soon as we hear the earcraft engine, the girls will pdddle. This will make their lumps light up. Can you see my titch? Start piddling when I flash it"

When they think Rene has been killed: "Rone's mamary will live on even though he's pissed away"

reply

Heh. No, I said "I think... it was 20 years ago". The three dots signifying a pause.

"The one that had me laughing the most was when Crabtree accidentally walked in on Michelle while she was changing clothes (I think... it was 20 years ago) and he said "I hope she does not thonk that I'm a Pooping Tim".

What I meant by the "I think..." remark was simply that I *think* Crabtree walked in on Michelle, and I *think* he said "I hope she does not thonk...", but as it was 20 years ago I last saw that particular scene, I can't be sure.

I have since downloaded all the episodes and I've watched a good share of them, but I still haven't found the "Pooping Tim" scene.

(And just to avoid any further confusion, I am the thread starter 'Quarantino II' but I lost the login details since then.)

Yeah, the 'pissing by the door when I heard two shats' is probably my favourite - that was in the episode with the carnival cabaret where Edith 'shot' the two airmen who were disguised as 'tits', which is one of my favourite episodes. One of the other memorable ones was in, I think, Series 6, when Crabtree's telling the others off for ruining a plan, & said, "You have made me look a right duckhead!" And where he's buying the fish from Herr Flick & Von Smallhausen, & says, "I am half-Itoolian. I was born in Nipples. You know the old saying - 'See Nipples and do." But it did get to a point where just the sight of Crabtree made people laugh - I know it did with me.

I vaguely remember Crabtree saying something like "There was a man pi$$ing by your window".

And Rene replying, "Well, it is France".

Funny, funny stuff.

Pants? No, I don't think so.

I also love the "I was just pissing by the door when I heard two shats. You are holding a smoking goon, you are clearly the guilty potty!" Also: "We will dongle this keerrot in frunt of the dinkey...that's butter!" And just little things like "Good moaning" and calling René "Ronnie". And there's also a scene where Edith and Monsieur Alphonse are having a picknick, and Crabtree comes over and goes "Ah, a pocknock!". I just love Crabtree!

And it must be really hard to keep that up. I can only imagine how many takes they had to do of this scenes...and all scenes in general... ^^

reply

Have you noticed how the audience eventually started laughing by the mere sight of Crabtree? After a certain number of episodes, he had to wait for the laughter to stop befor he could actually start saying his lines?

Yes, the one where Hans is accused of murder.

"I was pissing by the door, when I heard two shats. You are holding a smoking goon. You are the guilty potty." Or something like that. That's one of my all-time favorite episodes.

Yeah, Crabtree became a breakout character... like Kramer (Seinfeld), Stewie (Family Guy), Hiro (Heroes), Fonzie, Urkel, Boba Fett etc... I think Homer Simpson may count as a breakout character as well, because originally the star of the show was supposed to be Bart.

The Seinfeld production pretty annoyed with the Kramer thing after a while, the studio audience would hold back the laughter until Kramer appeared, then erupt in cheers and applause as soon as he entered the room, pretty much forcing the actors to pause for ten seconds to avoid the next line being drowned by the noise.

The nice thing is that (although I'm only on Season Six) it doesn't seem like they're giving the entire show over to him. I love Crabtree, but not having him onscreen all the time makes his scenes even more fun. I guess I'm thinking of "Fonzie Syndrome"... where a supporting character becomes so popular they just hand him the show and everyone else has to take a back seat. I hope that doesn't happen here.

There are so many catchphrases on this show... some of them get kind of tedious ("What a mistake-a to make-a") but Crabtree's "Good moaning" is always a hoot. I'd be disappointed if he didn't say it, even though I've heard it dozens of times before.

reply

Actually, they almost always did just one take so it would be fresh to the audience. It was very very rare that they did retakes

reply

i like the long distance dick episode! XD
