The gateau from the chateau

So I just watched The Court Jester with Danny Kaye, and arguably the most famous bit from that movie is "The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle; the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true."

Doesn't this sound like the bit from 'Allo 'Allo with the gateau from the chateau and the pill in the till? Anybody know if this was a deliberate reference to The Court Jester?

I think they just nicked the joke.

I really liked that scene, with Sam Kelly reciting the whole thing to Gorden Kaye over the bar & then them just locking eyes in panic for a few more seconds. Great stuff.

That remains one of my favourite scenes of the show, he delivers the line with such precision and emotion, and the pause afterward of him looking so desperately at Rene while the laughing dies down just creases me :D

it is very like it. And i think the cort jester scene in its turn was based on a scene from an earlier movie 'Roman Scandals' with Eddie cantor.
