The fact that she waited two years for a follow up didn't help, but this was/is a bad made for TV quality movies with another over the top performance.
Furthermore, Dunaway used the same facial expressions, exaggerated eye movements and vocal intonations that she used portraying Crawford, and repeated the process, yet AGAIN, the following year in Supergirl, each performance more comical than the previous.
