Something I Just Realized: He Never Said "Stop"

I'm embarrassed that I've been watching this film for decades and never spotted this before. David never tried telling Joshua to stop the game. He could have said "I don't like this game, let's play chess" or something to that affect.

I don't even know enough to know how much I don't know. Ya know?

Haha, you're right, I never noticed either (I've probably watched this movie numerous times for only one decade though). However, it wouldn't have mattered because Falken later explains that he never taught Joshua how to just give up. Thus, the computer wouldn't just stop until the game was over.

Watching the movie today, I was yelling at David: Just type "I quit". Or "End game". Or "Cancel game".

And if that didn't work. Type "I surrender. You won the game. How about a nice game of chess instead?"

reply

Since Falken programmed the computer he knew that it would not respond to those commands. Simple explanation.

I am going to have to refresh my memory by watching this film again but I could have sworn that David tries to play a different game but Joshua either ignores David or just says something like he can't do that. I could be wrong.
