Silo drug reference
Only just realised that the two USAF guys at the start during the silo test run are discussing cannabis cultivation - and I've watched it numerous times on TV when it's been broadcast over the years!

shareI recall there was another reference to it when he discovers the tape recorder when he is locked into that room. He plays the content to see if it is working and there is some talk about drug use on it.
shareThe tape recording says "patient's eyes are dilated consistent with use marijuana and possibly PCP". I can see Air Force guys smirking a little weed but not many NORAD people using PCP.
shareThis is kind of sobering....

In 1983, the military was going "full speed ahead" on urinalysis testing. Commissioned officers, as these two in the silo were, would have been immediately dismissed from the USAF if their tests came back positive. Same with Non-Commissioned officers (Sergeants and above). The lowly enlisted peons would have been sent to drug counseling and maybe lost some rank.
Urinalysis testing is the main reason why I quit smoking the "evil weed" while I was in the Army. I had a choice - party or keep my job and rank. :)
