Brilliant movie.... NOT

I'm going to rate this "did not like"/10

And there were so many reasons I did not like this movie I'm not going to waste my time to list them.

reply

And yet it`s okay to waste others` time with empty, meaningless posts such as this...

"facts are stupid things" - Ronald Reagan

reply

You're right, Franz. Reading my post was two seconds of your life you'll never get back. You've obviously got much better things to do, like posting deeply meaningful replies. Good job.

reply

Your original post did not warrant a deep and meaningful reply since you didn't bother to post anything deep or meaningful.

Straightedge means I'm better than you.

reply

oh.

reply

I guess I don't understand why you posted this if you didn't want to talk about it.

He's the IMDb word made flesh.

reply

Thanks for providing a meaningful conversation as to why you didn't like it.

Dodgeball is the best movie of all time.

reply

What a *beep* thread. The admins go around deleting posts and threads all the time, but this drivel remains? Whatever minuscule amount of space the original post takes up is a waste.

reply

LOL. Try not to let it ruin your life.

reply

You're the one posting over and over in a thread dedicated to a movie you insist has no value and isn't worth discussing in any depth, yet you feel compelled to continue posting about it every few hours without posting anything in detail about why you dislike it. In order for there to be any productive discussion of the movie there has to be some give and take, which I and others would be happy to engage in, but "Brilliant movie... NOT" doesn't lend itself to a discourse of any merit, hence my initial post calling it a sh-t (I hate "*beep*") thread. I couldn't care less if you like Videodrome or not -- many people don't -- but I'd much rather discuss its strengths and weaknesses with you than respond with "Great thread... NOT."

reply

Try not to let it ruin your life. :D

reply

Will do, little guy.

reply

Right back atcha, slick.

reply

I think the gist of it is is that it's rather tough to discuss your viewpoint of the film, if we don't actually know what it is. Simply posting 'it's a good film...not' doesn't give a lot of grounds for further talk, if, in fact, that's why you posted here in the first place.

You're of course free to post on any thread with just a blunt and dismissive opinion that doesn't provide any analysis--but considering that forums are places that are meant for discussion, it really it seems a little bit self-indulgent and pointless to do simply that.

reply

Every single post on this board is pure self-indulgence.

reply

Some, however, do justify the 'self-indulgent' aspect of it by attempting to deliver some degree of thought and considered critique. Yours is lazy self-indulgence that does nothing but fill up space, and can't be very enriching even to yourself.

reply

Look up the word "subjective", then take a moment to realize how it applies to every judgement you've just expressed.

reply

And there's no reply that conveys the fact that the poster has given no thought to a subject than the old 'everything is subjective' tagline. The 'subjectivity' of any judgement is secondary to the amount of actual thought reflected by it, and yours--speaking subjectively--haven't evinced any quality of thought at all.

reply

Do you really suppose I'll allow you the last word? I've got all day.

reply

I can well believe that. But never underestimate my tortoiselike, yet nonetheless deadly, persistence.

reply

I sense in you a worthy adversary. And I would never underestimate the... erm.... tenacity of the female of the species.

Bring it.

So tell me--what are some of your artistic objections to this film? Bear in mind that I haven't seen it in some years, but found it intriguing in some respects, from what I recall of it. However, I can't say that I'd have ranked it as one of his best films, and I 'd have to put his film adaptation of Naked Lunch in that spot, simply for his audacity in taking on filming a work that was so patently unfilmable--and pulling it off to a not unrespectable degree.

Maybe my memories of this film are colored by a penchant for the beauteous Debbie Harry, though I hope there's more of substance to my memories of it than simply that.

Think of the mind as a museum and each movie viewing experience as a potential exhibit. Some exhibits are cherished, put on display, and visited occasionally with great relish.

The movie Chinatown is on prominent display in my museum. I often pass by and inspect the crisp lines and subtle hues crafted into real art by skilled eyes and minds. It is one of a limited number of experiences worthy of a place in my hallowed halls.

And then there's Videodrome. I remember the day I stood on the loading dock, turning this piece of dreck over and over in my hands, scanning for any desirable quality. I found none. So, I tossed it into the dumpster, wiped my soiled hands with a wet-nap, burned the packing slip and sent the delivery man on his way. It was hauled away before I had time to shut the loading dock door. It wasn't worthy to take up space in my precious gallery. And now it's gone. Forever.

If you'd like to learn more about Roman Polanski's Chinatown, please press 1.
If you'd like another side-stepping responses about Videodrome, please press 2.
If you'd like to speak with a representative press 0 or hold the line and someone will be with you shortly.

Will nobody simply acknowledge the simple, elegant truth the OP has expressed? He, or she, did not like it. I understand OP that you did not like it. The OP did not like it! Thumbs down. Not his cup of tea. Meh.

Some might ask for reasons. Some reasoning? Does he have reasons? Oh yes, of course he does, there were many reasons, SO many, but he cannot be expected to waste his time, his precious time giving reasons. I understand you OP! I hear you.
You did not like it. And you are not going to waste your time with the reasons, the oh so may reasons, why.
