Shut off your television ......
is that the message of this film?
shareI'd say just don't get overly swept up in it.
You are sin.
i wonder whether cronenberg would update VIDEODROME for the internet age. these days, one can spend hours listening to podcasts which could really affect your mind. or hours and hours watching all sorts of porn. the number of entertainment options available to us these days is simply mindblowing. and most of them (including the best and high quality ones) can be accessed for free. one could simply go deep into that world.
an example is the increasing popularity of american TV serials and reality shows among young urban indians. i know male bachelors who dont even go out on weekends but simply spend hours and hours watching all the seasons of american TV serials. its just a great way to escape the sordid realities in india.
So you made this post just to try and bring attention to the fact that you're Indian? No one cares, this is a movie board not a racial discussion board.
shareNo, not really.
The true message is to know that your mass entertainment has a philosophy. That philosophy doesn't have your best interests at heart. So anything you see from cartoons, to soap operas to prime time to late news is a LIE.
Videodrome is real. It purposely made drones vote for a reality star for president.
shareNot sure, but I watched Videodrome tonight (my 5th or 6th viewing) and I feel that it's probably more relevant now in 2016 than it was in 1983.
