O'Blivion's TV interview?

***Spoilers***

If he was already dead when the interview happened, how would they be able to prepare a tape that would make him know the exact moment to respond to a question or turn his head?

Even if somehow there was someone cutting a live feed, there would be jump cuts.

reply

Well Boobear1_37, why not ask the interviewer ahead of time what kind of questions would they would be asking so that way a tape could be prepared? In the world of Videodrome Oblivion was a heavily sought after person so anybody who'd have a chance interview with him would definitely agree to any kind of terms.

reply

Great point. I was wondering this too.

I'm not sure how they worked the timing out (although it's actually not perfect), but at least his response to the question was appropriately random. The host asks if he thinks TV leads to desensitization and dehumanization; he responds with a rather irrelevant statement about his television name and how we'll all soon have 'special names'. You can even see the host give him a perplexed look. I was a bit confused when this first happened, but upon realizing that it was a prerecorded tape it actually makes a lot more sense.

It's pretty evident that his daughter just selected a tape that had some tangential relation to the topic being discussed on the TV show. O'Blivion never responds directly to any of the comments made by the other guests, mentions the interviewer by name, etc., nor does he give a direct answer to the questions he's asked.

reply

I think part of it also has a kind of magical or mystical element to it. He's able to operate as a TV-only personna because he has so many tapes, a completely illogical number of them. That is part of the mystery of the Videodrome program.

OR
was he really dead?
nothing is what it seems

I have a television name : it is Max Headroom

reply

He was alive in Videodrome. He had shed the old flesh.
Long live the new flesh
