Quote about Marxism

The Jean-Louis Trintignant character has a great line that goes as follows:

"I like you people, but you are sentimental *beep* You fall in love with the poets; the poets fall in love with the Marxists; the Marxists fall in love with themselves. The country falls in love with the rhetoric, and in the end we are stuck with tyrants."

A friend that I was watching the film with swears that it's paraphrasing a famous quote by an author or politician whose name she couldn't place. Can anybody help me out here? Thanks in advance!
