Coffin scene

Don't get me wrong. I love this flick. Seen it a million times. My best friend and I had a copy on VHS in the early-mid '80s when we were young teenagers and ran the crap out of it (along w/ platoon, hamburger hill, 84 charlie mopic, etc).
Anyway, you know the scene where they buy the coffin full of old weapons and equipment? And the next scene when they're cleaning all of it--there's like a TON of stuff. Land mines, Claymores, Thompsons, .45 Colts, M1 Garands, etc. and they even have a pile of stuff that's no good.
I know it's just a movie, but I always wondered if it was possible to really fit all of that stuff into that coffin?? :-)

Hi, I am a fan of this movie as well. I think it was possible to get all that stuff in because it was a chinese type, or oriental coffin and they seem pretty large. And I am guessing that some other stuff was laying around and Frenchie tossed it in the deal just to get rid of the stuff.

First saw it in '83 and have been a fan of it for a long time. Think it is the most realistic POW/MIA movie that's been made so far, especially the state of the POWs were in when they were rescued.

Also feel so bad about the men who were left behind. Check out "We can keep you forever", a documentary exploring this tragedy and books "Kiss the boys goodbye" by Monica Jensen-Stevenson. What a tragedy.

Actually, when Frenchie first takes the to the "bargan basement" he opnes a trunk containing the rifles, and such. This trunk was sitting on the coffin. Look closely at the lid when Frencie opens it, it is rounded ,and hinged.

I always thought they got more than just the trunk/coffin...6,000 for the "whole lot"

I always liked the part where Hackman flips the menu page over to the military vehicles and helicopters and then the French gun dealer says:

"These dishes require 24-hour notice."

Of course, that means that he has to to steal it first from the Army. Hence 24 hour notice. LOL.
