edited scene midway through (did you notice?)

when they get to Vietnam, after Hackman and Harold Sylvester (the doctor helicopter pilot) are almost arrested, the film cuts to Harold Sylvester and the great Randall Tex Cobb both standing together with their arms locked and Hackman is standing between them, looking as if he's breaking up a fight that has ensued between Sylvester and Cobb...

my question...

why on earth did they edit out the beginning of whatever caused this ruckus? it just jumps right to the two guys with their arms interlocked... is confusing...

did you notice this?

reply

I noticed that but I always figured Cobb and Sylvester were holding Hackman to prevent him from lashing out in anger.

And what's with the editing in this movie?
There are several scenes like this, either incomplete, "arranged funny", or just poor editing.
For example, when Gene Hackman is trying to convince Harold Sylvester to join them, He sets the framed medal on the desk, looks up, has an "oops" expression, and turns the medal to a different angle.
Anyone else catch that?

Other than that, a good movie with a solid plot; one of my favorites.

Refusal to believe does not negate the truth.

I believe Gene was just trying to draw his attention to the medal, and adjusting it to his sight, while he was telling the story about how he got it, to restore his pride and motivate him into helping him rescue his son. Made perfect sense to me.
