A+E Biography on Dorothy Stratten

Eric Roberts, who also did an interview in the "E True Hollywood Story" about DS, answers some questions about his role. Also, for the first time, Mariel Hemmingway reflects on her role as DS in the film. If you're a fan of Star 80, you might want to catch this biography special. It just aired on January 12, 2005, they may have repeats.

Eric Roberts is the most underrated actor, and the reason I say that is because of this film. While the irony is that I can't stand his sister Julia and Hollywood worships the ground she walks on . . . go figure??!! I remember the Ebert & Siskel reviews of Eric Roberts portrayal of Snider. They were blown away - he was amazing and he carried the film. I thought Hemmingway was awesome to, but I really think the film was about Snider, not so much about DS.

Next airing on November 11, not sure if only on Biography channel or on regular A&E, but this is what I've heard.

"Have a great day - unless I don't like you - in which case, DIE IN THE CORNER!"

I did watch the Dorothy Stratten Biography and it was pretty good, because you are learning all about the person and how famous she was. You know what A&E should and hope they can keep this in mind. They should show the Dorothy Stratten Biography and then show the movie Star 80. Do they still air that movie on network televison?

Hey, twodoor2, you are right on the mark about Eric vs. Julia Roberts! I think Eric is terrific in just about he's in, which unfortunately is a lot of B-movies. He deserves better. It's too bad that "Star 80" didn't put him on the A-list, because he's most believable as Paul Snider.

As for Julia Roberts, she just grates on me. I can think of no major actress more overrated. Almost always, she's playing the same character, and that squinting thing she does to show emotion is most tired. The only time I've really liked her was in "Erin Brockovich," and there she had a great director (Steven Soderbergh). Still, it's always bothered me that she won the Oscar for that over Ellen Burstyn in "Requiem for a Dream."

But I digress. Eric Roberts is criminally underrated!

I have actually enjoyed a few of Julia`s preformances. I liked STEPMOM, and SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY..... I was sort of amused with PRETTY WOMAN, ......
THAT SHRIEKING LAUGH turns me off! What IS that? Her trademark????
I use to wonder about her and ERIC........are they another Shirley Mc Laine and Warren Beatty?
I think I read something about Julia banishing Eric from her life, because Eric did drugs....????? Is that true?
I LOVE Eric!!! Why is he so underrated?

Eric Roberts is nothing short of electrifying in this movie and if for no other reason, this film should be seen for his performance.

I like the A & E biography because it shows Peter Bogdonavich was a
major factor contributing to her death. Hugh Hefner was not. Hefner put
her in the magazine and that was all he did. To him she was just another
employee. Bogdonavich, being the letch that he is, took advantage of a
naive, young girl for his own inflated ego. She was a trophy lover, she
fed his over inflated ego. Had he left her alone she'd be alive today.
