And about damn time.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

reply

I think it's about damn time, too......Roberts was *beep* amazing in Star 80........

Roberts was good, real good. But I think he might have overacted just a wee bit in a few scenes, don't you?

reply

No way he over-reacted! He's playing a sick obsessive creep who murders his estranged wife and then kills himself. Roberts was way under-appreciated for this role.

Yes, I agree.

who was he up against that year for a nom?
He may not had been nominated due to the nature of the film,or as another poster mentioned, overacting. Whether he overacted is up to the viewer; I'm just guessing .

The Oscar oversight of Eric Roberts is all the more absurd considering how weak the competition was in 1983. Robert Duvall won for Tender Mercies, which as I recall was nothing special. There was obviously an industry backlash against Star 80 -- a brilliantly made film in a weak year gets zero Oscar nominations?

maybe hollywood frowns upon or feels uncomfortable with biopics of tragic victims like Dorothy, and may view them as being expotive

reply

Eric Roberts' performance in this movie was amazing!!! He should've gotten an Oscar for this.
