Bogdanovich married Dorothy's younger sister???

From Wikipedia:

On December 30, 1988, the 49-year-old Bogdanovich married 20-year-old Louise Stratten, Dorothy's younger sister, whom he had begun dating a few years after Dorothy's death. The couple divorced in 2001.

I don't know, that seems pretty messed up to me...

Yeah, I'm sure. This was over 8 years later, though. Not that I'm saying they shouldn't have still been messed up over it, and I'm not really saying there's anything outright wrong with this. It's just, I don't know, hard to not go WTF? The enormous age difference too: he was 49, she was 20. Again, not judging, but damn...

I was also surprised to hear how much he disliked this film. He even said Mariel was "cow-like" or something? Wow, that's kind of an douchey thing to say. Also, his character was portrayed in a very positive light. Add to the fact that it's an undeniably amazingly-acted and -directed movie that is incredibly powerful and moving, it's really surprising that he disliked it so much. I haven't seen the Jamie Lee Curtis one that he supposedly preferred, but from what I've heard it's not even a tenth as good as this one.

You were surprised he didn't like the film?

Okay, stop and think for a minute - what if you were watching a film about someone you were intimately involved with, right?
And you have to sit through the exploitation, selfishness and coat-tail riding by her ultimate murderer.
And then the final act itself.
I think that would be a very hard thing to do. In fact I'm surprised Mr. Bogdanovich ever watched it at all.

And you are right, the acting in this film is very, very good. Roberts plays a truely despicable character very convincingly.
Very sad story.
I knew very little about Stratten before I watched this movie.
But this story was just a higher profile occurence of something that goes on all the time throughout the world.

I'm surprised he disliked the film based on its artistic merits. Of course I wouldn't expect him to like the subject matter! If you read my full post, I referred to the fact that he was supposed to have liked the other version better, so I'm talking about his feelings on the film and the treatment of the story, not the story or events themselves.

Bogdanovich should never criticize anyone else's looks. That's just begging for it.

I guess we hear diff things. Paul said, Mariel was Tall just like the almost SIX foot tall real life Stratton was,out of heels. and taller with heels on, like 6'3 and resemble her somewhat, and same mannerism,i never heard anything else about a cow etc., JEVICCI.

I love this movie, pretty sad.But i get why he would want to and did marry sister. weird?
Yep.But i get it...

RIP DOROTHY STRATTON
