Is this the movie where when the hero is captured he has to wear a collar, that is he crosses a certain point his head explodes? does anyone know what movie that is.

it was definitely from the 80's, desert type setting.

help please.

It was, at least, part of the beggining of The Running Man

Yep, probably The Running Man. Exploding collars also feature in Battle Royale, but the mechanic is very different from the one you're describing.

Might be Deadlock with Rutger Hauer. Also known as Wedlock.
