Creepy Disney?

Is this movie actually creepy/scary? I mean even for a disney movie... Bride of Boogedy spooked me as a kid and they don't make them like that anymore.

I'm watching it now, watch it every October if I can and yes, quite creepy. The good acting (of the adults, anyway, especially Jason Robards and Jonathan Pryce), the lack of an intrusive musical score throughout a lot of the film, the closeups on people's faces showing every bead of sweat and feverish gleam of their eyes... It all contributes a lot to the ominous undertones that permeate the movie.

It's creepy but not very good. Disney edited the film (which was supposedly VERY scary in its original form) to make it more family friendly. As a result it's confusing with numerous plot holes and pointless sequences. I remember it bombing badly in 1983.

It's mostly just kind of unsettling, but the spider scene flat-out terrified me as a kid.
