any gear heads know about that T/A in this one?

Was that an '82 or an '83? I don't think it was the Recaro edition either. From what I understand, they made the car look a lot faster than it was in real life, the early '80s were a bad time for lots of power in the muscle cars. I think the one in this movie had 165 hp tops. Still, it was a cool looking car!

Its an 82 judging by the shift knob which only visable once or twice. 82's had a button in the middle you pushed down to shift and 83 & up had the t-handle

reply

The car is actually an '83. The t-handle shifter was availiable in '84 and above TA's. I've owned several third gens, especially '84s, and i know my F-bodies quite well. And the TA in the movie was not a Recaro edition. The Recaro edition would have had a rear hatch window wiper option and different seats. These cars are rated at 190 horsepower with the standard 305 engine. Hope this helps you.

reply

The 190HP only goes if the T/A had the L69 305 that was available mid '83.She doesn't have HO decals,or a Crossfire Injection emblem either,on the back bumper.Base power plant for the '82-'83(actually thru '87 I believe)was the LG4 305 rated at 150hp.

And thats all Knight Rider had to work with too,at least until later seasons when they might have had access to the HO engine or modified stock engines.

reply

Not correct, my first car was a mint 1983 TA and it had the T-handle shifter. The car in the movie is a 1982 TA.

Its an '83.Regular 305.But the stunt cars were crate motors from 5.7 liters.Production manager said they used 5 cars,3 were wrecked. The 305 was so smogged they installed 200-230 horse 350's with Joie Chitwood mechanics helping for stunts.
