I have heard about this version for several years,And as I understand it, it is with Gleason playing both roles. but does anybody know how they did it? was he in the Trans am and the police car? what gives!

I've never seen it, but that's what I've been led to belive. Wow, there must have been some powerful weed being passed around when they thought THAT would make for a great movie

Hence Smokey taking over the role of the Bandit
Later in test screenings however People wondered where the BANDIT was
then added the Jerry Reed/Trans AM footage to actually have a BANDIT Character
That is not true, Gleason did film footage as the "Bandit". If you watch closely you can see "Bandit" stuntmen being very poortly and not even closely resembling Jerry Reed. Plus, I have a pic of Gleason on my PC dressed as the "Bandit" complete with Burt Reynolds' mustache.
