We have all seen this picture....

Tonight the movie was on, and the first time Cletus "peeled out" as the Bandit he was wearing sunglasses, but the stunt driver was below:

No specs, and we all know who that driver resembles now don't we?

reply

I'll admit he does look a bit like Buford but he also looks a bit like the real Bandit.

reply

But Jerry was wearing shades.

Then they show the stunt double.

Then Jerry wearing shades again.

reply

True, but I gotta wonder, just WHY did Cledus wear shades ALL through the movie?

More evidence

Confirms Reed won't be part of the movie.

Nor Burt.

Nor Fields.

That is awsome that you were able to dig up more evidence. Kinda hard for people to deny that it was filmed with Gleason playing both roles, especially since the first article was there for the filming of the end of the movie and both Reed & Colleen Camp would have been on the set that day.

reply

Great catch, indeed.

Odds still not great for seeing the footage, however.

Sad face.

reply

Many people thought they would never see Richard Donner's cut of Superman II and it happened, so never say never.

reply

Thanks so much for digging this article up. I still have an unhealthy obsession for this movie (and mystery) and I keep coming back here periodically. Thanks for everything.

They need to release the original version of Smokey and the Bandit 3

reply

I agree that it would be so awesome to see the original version, but I would settle for an Anamorphic Widescreen version of the current version of S&TB3.
