Major Plot Hole

In the very first scene we find out that Tony’s mother is dead, that’s what Tony tells the immigration officers. But then we later find out that she very much is alive.

How did no one in editing catch this?

reply

erm.... because he was obviously lying to the officers?

he wasn't a political prisoner either, he was an armed robber but he didn't tell them that either

reply

Wait you’re suggesting that Tony lied to federal immigration officers? That has to be illegal? Are you sure Tony would do something like that? Seems pretty out of character for him.

reply

He was just telling them what he thought they wanted to hear. Like never being in "the can".

reply

Ok thank you, that makes sense.

reply

Wow! You needed that explained?

reply

It’s a confusing scene. You also shouldn’t be so judgmental. Many films take multiple viewings to fully understand.

reply

I don't find movies confusing. I appreciate and understand it always the first time

I just made a similar thread about this. Tony says he has no family in the USA, but it seems like having family in the USA would benefit him from the border patrol officer's point of view, right?

reply

Not necessarily. He wanted to hide who he was (that he had been in jail, that he was an assassin, etc) and he had an estranged relationship with his mother as we saw. He probably didn't think his mother would vouch for him, and very likely given her feeling may have told authorities he's a no good killer.

reply

ok that makes sense ty
