The Wrong Stuff

This movie is boring, too long, doesn't have a story, bad acting, and the ending blows all that length for you to think " why was the ending so abrupt " and the whole thing was shot incredibly dull.

reply

I can only say that if you thought the ending was 'so abrupt' it was because you missed the story, thought the acting was bad, believed the 'whole thing shot incredibly dull(?) and was bored. Never mind.
Too busy working on your sentence structure?
Ha! A one. But at least you've put it in the same league as Pulp Fiction... Godfather... Unforgiven. Oh, dear.

reply

I can't believe anyone would give all those movies a one.

Clearly a cinema illiterate.

reply

No. Just a troll. Not a good one either, if there can be such a thing. The guy gave classics a "1" and Point Break a "7".

Really the only response a post this dumb deserves.

When there are as many scenes with great actors performing badly as this, you know it's the director. Kaufman needs a big kick to the nuts for his effort in this movie, and the people who manufactured such a critical success need to stop critiquing movies. Period.

Barry Lyndon. The Good, The Bad, The Ugly. Fargo. Casino. Clearly, The Right Stuff is not a movie for you.
And having read the evolution of the script for this movie, maybe you would have preferred the 'astronauts train... astronauts fly... end of movie' that was originally planned. Kaufman saved this project! Offsetting the test pilots' story with the astronauts? Classic.

reply

You're right. I tend to like movies with good acting, among other things.

reply

Ha! Yeah, I saw what you did there. Funny.

reply

By the way... Spider-Man and American Gigolo rated at 9? I am in awe of the critical genius that appears before me.......

*EDIT* And let's not forget that incredible masterpiece Starship Troopers. And Clueless. Holy crap, man.

reply

Hey, I'm outed! Call me eclectic. You could slag Big Trouble in Little China while you're at it. Go on; have a free swing.

JohnTravolta had Unforgiven, Godfather, Casino, Pulp Fiction as a one. Now, by any reasonable standard, there must be something sadly amiss to vote each of those movies a single point... or anything lower than an 8.

And really, Fargo? 5? But, hey; we'll always have Rocky... and LA Law.
Oh, Starship Troopers didn't do it for you? Want to know more?

And more to my point about this movie. When Kaufman was given the script, the way I remember the story, it was going to be about the pilots being selected for Mercury and then their training and the flights... a pretty straightforward telling of Mercury. Kaufman compared the lives and profiles of the test pilots to those of the astronauts, taking some great parts of Tom Wolf's book, turning this into an iconic movie.
He did justice to a truly great part of American History.
But there are, of course, those who will disagree.

reply

Did you really recently rate Starship Troopers? That is one hellava coincidence.
Now I want to know more...

Your great aunt petunia liked it...but you know how she is.

It is too long, and the story is not character focused but "space program" focused.

The acting is actually exceptional and the ending is a bit on the short side.

But, regrettably, a lot of people agreed with you that it was on the dull side, which is why it flopped.

Troll. Make that ignorant troll.

reply

...but the name of the movie is "The RIGHT Stuff", not the The WRONG Stuff...
