Does anyone think that maybe Braden was the mastermind behind the massacre of Cho's family? And just shot and killed a few ninjas, to look convincing enough?

Rocky VI must happen! Sean Penn said so!

No Braden had nothing to do with that, Cho's family history was a bloody one going way back fighting against rival ninja sects. Although Braden was smart in the generic way he shot the couple of ninjas and killed the one with sword just convincingly enough to come across as just a tough guy who could defend himself.

Then of course it is given away a few minutes later with the obvious shot of his evil look when grandma says "I do not trust this man, my son."

Interesting thoughts. I was asking because that thought used to cross my mind a lot, watching it as a kid.

Of course he masterminded it. He needed Cho to go to America so that he could smuggle the drugs in the dolls. Everything was a setup from the beginning

Yeah he obviously was trying to convince Cho to come to America so he could use him for smuggling his heroin.

I just figured with all the comments that Cho and his mother made, it was pretty clear that the family had fought many battles on their land for generations. So the attack would not seem out of the ordinary.

Remember it was 6 years after the massacre before he even opened his shop.

Braden had lived in Japan for 20 years, so if what you are saying is true, he is one patient man.

Good point, had forgotten the time difference, haven't seen the film in ages and am trying to get it on UK DVD, but they don't seem to want to release it

Yeah I have the canadian DVD. Wish there had been a bit of money spent on some interviews or supplementary footage.

The dvd has the trailer which has some cool scenes in it that weren't in the movie! There could be some extra footage of this great action pic in menahem golan's vault somewhere.

Yeah, that would have been much more dramatic....instead of pretty much revealing it 15 minutes into the film after the massacre of Cho's family and friends.

And of course the classic ROTN music effect as well.

Talk about giving away the fact he's a bad guy immediately as well.

No, that wouldn't make any sense, since they were all trying to kill Cho, which would have ruined Braden's entire plan had they succeeded.
