(Spoilers) Did anyone feel sad when...

... Norman came home to an empty house and Mary was no longer there?

I think we really got to empathise with Norman's need to have her around, he needed her and we all felt that despite her initial intentions being bad.

Then, when he comes home to an empty house, it felt like something really was missing and Norman had lost an important part of his new life - as if he was getting used to it but ultimately had to accept he was destined to be alone...

Yes, I felt a pang of sadness, especially knowing that at that point, he has been driven back into insanity.

A Superman without trunks isn't worth watching or reading about.

Well she and her mother did play a part in driving him back into insanity...

Y'know, I could eat a peach for hours

Maybe that was done on purpose. Get the audience to feel bad for him for being alone until Spool shows up to reveal herself. The guy who was lonely now had his mother for company until he killed her. Then you realize nope, at this point he doesn't need anyone but HIS mother, not Mrs. Spool's version.
