Although the bit at the end where he goes after the "intruder" with a baseball bat, he's just hitting stuff to break it!
I agree. This film deserves to be more widely recognized; it's a very taut, tense and gripping psychological horror thriller sleeper with a first-rate lead performance by Peter Weller.
Nobody does W.C. Fields singing "Mama Told Me Not to Come" better than Paul Frees.

Yes, all that is true; but do you not agree that it is also HILARIOUS? That spiked baseball bat! Weller completely grossing out his colleagues by reciting rat statistics! The rat's being crafty enough to eat the exterminator's cheque before the guy can begin exterminating!

Thank you. I appreciate the compliment. Is the chap joking when he said it is Stephen King's favorite 'film'? Maybe favorite rat movie, but favorite movie?!However, I will beam for a moment or two with the fantasy that he made that remark. The film was great fun to write, a lot of handicaps which were overcome by Cosmostos and Weller. Critics liked it, but it never found an audience...except you guys. Brian Taggert
Hey Brian you've got some really interesting work to your credit, most of which I grew up with. The series "V" really took my community by storm where I grew up in the Bay Area of California. I was in elementary,maybe 5th grade when V came out and all of us kids were soo into it, so thanks for all your contributions to cinema, it is appreciated.

Thanks for the compliment. Very nice, indeed. "V" was great fun to write. To add to the fun, I will tell you that my six hour was losely based on the concept of "Dynasty". They had already established Nazi occupation of Europe as a metaphor, so the producers asked me what I wanted to do. I told them that the premise was that Diana's lover had sent her billions of miles into outer space, so he couldn't have loved her that much. We all laughed and I thought we should do a bitch fight in outer space between the two women. They already had the background of Nazi occupied Europe to buoy the piece, so we decided to just be outrageous. Guess it worked. Thanks again, Brian

Excellent job on this screenplay! Now this is how you make a horror film – with real actors, real character development, real atmosphere and, finally, real action. Too often films start with the latter and completely ignore the former. I was shocked – SHOCKED – at how much I liked this film. The tight script and completely believable performance by Peter Weller made this an overlooked treasure. This is as good as a man vs. rat film is going to get. 8/10 stars.
It certainly deserves more notoriety. My appreciation:

I saw maybe 5 minutes of this on the USA network when i was a kid, but i always remembered it and wanted to see the whole thing. I couldn't find it cuz i kept thinking the lead actor was either the protagonist from the tv show "Greatest American Hero" or the lead actor from the "Airplane" movies. I still haven't seen this flick & i look forward to one day getting my hands on it.
