i think he was going mad and he just hallucinated the whole rat thing

There were times in the film when I thought that too. Or that there was a normal rat, and he was very much overreacting. In any case, if the rat was there and smart, there and normal, or not there at all... I think the movie rocked and Peter Weller was brilliant in it and elevated it to be a great movie when it could've been cheese.

What about the dead cat was that a hallucination too
