Is this the most underrated Bond film?

I always hear people complain about the Tarzan yell and the clown suit. But these things only make up a small portion of the movie. Overall I think this film is one of the best that Bond has to offer. The locations are amazing and there's even some really good action scenes. Especially all the scenes that take place on the train. They're just so good.

And it even has one of the best quotes of any Bond movie. "This is for my brother." Bond kills him. "And that was for 009." Oh my god!!!

I think The Spy Who Loved Me really set the bar high for Roger Moore as Bond. That may have been a bit influenced by how bad his first two movies went. But I always put For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy near each other in terms of quality, FYEO getting the edge because it plays a bit cleaner, more polished. And if people thought Denise Richards sabotaged The World is Not Enough, how much damage did Lynn-Holly Johnson do as Bibi?

The clown suit and the Tarzan yell were a bit over the top, but the general plotline in this and FYEO were pretty solid.

And of course, A View to a Kill is the worst Bond movie of all. Die Another Day and Quantum of Solace tried to unseat it, but they weren't completely successful.

Agreed!

Roger Moore should have finished after Moonraker. I always felt that Timothy Dalton should have done all the 80s Bond films starting with For Your Eyes Only.

As far as Octopussy being underrated. I agree with most that it's a great Bond film. I find myself watching it more than the newer Bond movies with Brosnan & Craig.

The problem is: there IS no 009. Fleming made it clear that there are only three agents who are licensed to kill: 003, 005 and 007. I read the books. The screenwriter did not; nor did you.

Yeah it's one of the most underrated for sure, along with Diamonds Are Forever, Moonraker, and The World is Not Enough. Upon rewatching Octopussy recently, I found the movie much better than I remember. I don't know why everyone bashes it. So Bond dresses like a clown in one scene, so what? It was just a disguise and it made perfect sense in the context of the movie.

I enjoyed it too, much more than Moore's other critically acclaimed Bond films like The spy who loved me. I think it may be Moore's best.

It is the most mediocre, mixed bag of a Bond movie I can think of
