Is this really a Montoro/Film Ventures production?

I wanted to get some answers regarding this film, because several people including sources and interviews I have read with filmmakers that were involved with Film Ventures International (FVI) back in the early 1980's, none of them can tell me for sure if this film, The Unearthling (AKA- The Pod People) was one of many of the B-Movie productions produced and or distributed by Film Ventures International. Edward Montoro, who ran Film Ventures made a significant impression with releasing B-Movie films in the US, many of them were major motion pictures that included Beyond the Door, Grizzly, Day of the Animals and Vigilante. Other features included The Dark, The Incubus and Mutant. In 1980 FVI did face major finanical issues over the acquisition of Great White, an Italian made ripoff of Jaws, that threatened a law-suit by Universal Pictures. The director of The Unearthling, Juan Simon did direct a feature that was acquired by FVI called 'Pieces', but I am still lost if this film was officially released by FVI. I have heard rumors that some of the films that are often seen on MST3 were re-released or edited to look like films done by FVI, but that was later proven false.

Question: I didn't understand the whole McCloud, along with other names being yelled out at several times throughout the movie. The reference is no doubt beyond my time, but if anyone could explain its significance I'd be happy. Thanks!

McCloud was an old NBC "Mystery Circle" show that along with Columbo and McMillan and Wife were very popular "offbeat" detective shows in the 1970's.

I haven't seen "Pod People" but I assume that one of their characters (or aliens) resembles Dennis Weaver so they yell out "McCloud".

All those names are characters from old TV shows, done in voices of characters from those shows. "Mr. Drysdale!" is from The Beverly Hillbillies, "Angels!" is from Charlie's Angels, "LI-SA!" and "Mr. Douglas?" are from Green Acres, "Mr. Eddie's Father?" is from The Courtship of Eddie's Father, and that's all I remember right now (besides "MCCLOUD!" being from McCloud, as someone already stated).

And, no, they do not all resemble Dennis Weaver. I think they're shouted when the characters from the movie are running through the woods looking for someone, which happens several times in this movie.

uh, do you have anything else to reference when talking about ridiculously low budget turd piles that most of us would never even have heard of if not for the show? and who gives a damn anyway? you want serious criticism, go to film school, dont lurk on a website *beep* and dissing folks.

"trumpy, you can do stupid things!"

also, you spelled regurgitating wrong, genius.

Since nobody's bothered to answer this question in the year or so (!) since it went up -- no, Film Ventures didn't produce this one, they only distributed it in the early 1990s under the title Pod People.
It's one of several movies (Ator 2 retitled Cave Dwellers, Marooned retitled Space Travelers, and so on) they released with changed titles and hastily redone opening and closing credits.
As far as I know these releases were on home video only, but I'm no expert.

Oh yes and i could see why they used blurred opening footage for some of their stuff.
