'Bond Remakes'

Saw this on another board, that several plots, while not reMAKES, are reHASHES of previous Bond films. NSNA is the only actual remake, but there are others in the official series:

FRWL/FYEO - Bond in pursuit of a decoding machine. Both have double-crosses; Tanya is technically an enemy but ultimately defects, while Grant goes undercover as Nash, just as when Kristatos posed as an ally before turning out to be an enemy.

GF/AVTAK/TWINE - Destroying something to monopolize a market. Goldfinger wants to increase the value of his gold by destroying Fort Knox, Max Zorin plans to flood Silicon Valley to take over the microchip market and Elektra King wants to blow up Istanbul to build an oil pipeline and take over the oil business.

YOLT/TSWLM/MR/TND - Two different overlaps. The first is planning to use nuclear missiles to evoke a war, and the second is rebuilding humanity. Blofeld wants to use stolen spacecraft to evoke a war between the USA and the USSR, whereas Karl Stromberg used submarines while Elliot Carver was going to use a stolen missile to blow up Beijing and start a war with Britain. Meanwhile, Stromberg hoped to rebuild humanity under the sea after the war broke out, whiel Hugo Drax wanted to rebuild in space.

DAF/DAD - Both involve diamonds and satellites. Both villains are incredibly silly too. Another similarity is that the last official films of their respective Bonds; Connery and Brosnan.

LALD/LTK/QOS - Mr Big and Franz Sanchez plan to set up a huge drugs business. Bond in both LTK and QOS are out on a personal vendetta against the villains.

MWTGG/GE/SF - Both involve "Bond's equal" in the villains.

Any others I missed? TLD and Octopussy perhaps?

Very good list. I had known for quite some time some of the later Bond films recycle the plots of the earlier Bond films. Here's my suggestion:

From Russia with Love and The Living Daylights are very much alike having the term, "Smiert Shpionam" (Death to Spies in Russia) playing a role, having Bond battle a tall, bulky, blond assassin (I call it the "Red Grant archetype"), and have a romantic subplot within the Cold War espionage narrative.

Finally, you didn't mention On Her Majesty's Secret Service in your list.

This is my signature. Take it or leave it.

Quantum of Solace/Licence To Kill (a revenge story, Bond goes rogue, and gets his licence revoked)
TWINE/Skyfall (an attack on MI6, a more personal role in the story for M, a villain from M's past)
Casino Royale/OHMSS (a more realistic, gritty Bond film, introducing a new actor, with a more emotional, personal story for Bond, and a love interest who he is prepared to retire for, who dies at the end)
You Only Live Twice/TSWLM/Tomorrow Never Dies (Supervillain who wants to provoke a war between rival powers) Maybe even Dr No as well. No has a similar plan, to provoke the superpowers into conflict
